The Environment & Air Pollution by Tyler Hodger
Although we all are familiar with air pollution know it very real problem that affects our environment all of us most of us tend to ignore it as if it does not exist. This is particularly easy for people who live in rural areas do not see on a daily basis its extent they do not see smog factories or millions of cars on the road polluting our air.
But air pollution is problem that cannot be ignored forever no matter how much we want to. Just smelling the exhaust of cars when standing next to a road or seeing factories pump smoke into the sky is constant reminder that there is damage which is continuously being done to the environment by our modern society.
What is air pollution Air pollution is by product of our modern society comprises numerous types of gases chemicals that are being ejected to the atmosphere. The main culprit of this undesirable pollution are vehicles. An additional cause is factories that release dangerous toxic fumes into the atmosphere.
Why is air pollution dangerous
1. Health reasons it has been scientifically demonstrated that air pollution is associated with countless types of illnesses including strokes breathing problems heart issues.
2. Global warming as everybody knows air pollution is in fact one of the major causes of global warming. In case you are not familiar with the term global warming refers to the slow increase of the temperature of Earth. Although this may not sound too bad it affecting entire ecosystems melting polar ice caps unless stopped will raise sea levels. Once that happens coastal cities such as New York London will be flooded.
3. Ozone layer air pollution has been scientifically linked to the shrinking of the ozone layer. This reduces its ability to shield us from ultraviolet radiation effectively causes being exposed to sunlight to be far more dangerous resulting in an increase in the number of skin cancers as well as damage to wildlife plants.
4. Acid rain the combination of rain air pollution specifically certain chemicals can cause acid rain. Acid rain has a great impact on plants animals fish also gets absorbed into soil making it toxic to numerous plants animals.
How can we fight air pollution
1. Hybrid vehicles hybrid vehicles produce only about a fourth of the pollution of an average vehicle. Consequently if everyone started driving hybrid vehicles you can imagine the effect this would have on air pollution particularly considering vehicles are the number one cause of air pollution as mentioned .
2. Using green energy such as wind power solar power hydro electricity geothermal power biomass energy rather than using fossil fuels for energy would also have a large impact on air pollution.
Unfortunately air pollution only appears to be getting worse. A scary likely scenario is that we eventually reach a point where the damage to the environment is irreversible. Consequently the only logical course of action is for everybody to actively start incorporating ways into their lifestyle that reduce air pollution.
In this author's opinion the only way to truly solve this problem is through education. Most people are aware of the dangers of air pollution the severe repercussions these hold yet many ignore them. Perhaps by educating our children from birth to live a green environmentally friendly lifestyle by teaching them of the folly of our mistakes there may still be hope for our planet ourselves.
Tyler Hodger has been researching practicing the utilization of green energy sources for years.
